How ‘bout this Mike Matheny…

Good Morning all, and welcome to another edition of HTD’s Sweet Chin Music. I want to talk a little bit about the crap shoot known as the Cardinals daily lineup. It’s no secret the Cardinals have been underperforming with the lumber this year. Outside of Yadi (.367) and Big City (.342), the birds are mediocre at best when compared to other offenses. On paper the Cards would appear to have one of the most prolific lineups in the Major Leagues. So what do we blame it on? Beltran in the Bronx? Carp and Craig spending too much time counting their money? The size of Mike Matheny’s watch, only rivaled by a hockey puck? Who knows, but it might have a little bit to do with the constant tinkering to the lineup. As of today through 23 games…the Redbirds have used 19 different lineups, and have yet to use the same offense on consecutive days. I realize there are some platoon situations in CF and 2B…but I think a little consistency could do them some good. When a guy knows where he’s playing and where he’s hitting before he gets to the ballpark, I’m sure one can mentally prepare better for the game. Maybe it’s the superstitiousness still left in me from my playing days, but hitting leadoff one day, and batting 8th the next, and then on the bench for 2 games can’t help rookie Kolten Wong get out of his slump. Our crack research staff here at Omega, will help you keep track and update you a few times throughout the season, but if Matheny doesn’t “set it and forget it”…it could be a long season battling the Buccos and Brewers for the division crown. As I wrap, I will leave you with a note and Omega’s daily lineup…Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb, it’s about how well you bounce!
