The State of Freight

February 7th, 2014 by Patrick Murphy

Shipping is a huge part of our business. It’s critical to be aware of the factors that affect the cost of freight. This weary winter of 2014 has seen arctic blasts and record low temperatures. Fourteen named storms have rocked the eastern half of the country and caused delays all over the United States. LTL shipments have been hit hardest. It can take several days after a snow storm to get pickups and deliveries back on schedule.  Partial shipments have become scarce as full truck loads outweigh capacity. Long weight times for loading and unloading have only exacerbated an already strenuous situation. As salespeople, we have to be cognizant of these issues but also do our best to push product out the door. Where freight is concerned, it’s best to undersell and over deliver.
